Just too cool

Posted by lpearle on 27 January 2009

We did the Mock Newbery at MPOW, and yesterday the awards were handed out. Given that Gaiman had previously published part of The Graveyard Book, we didn’t think it was eligible but still read it.

This morning, at breakfast, one of the parents of our Newbery team approached me – both of them were happy with the winner. Then, at lunch, another parent came up to me. Apparently these two faculty children had spent breakfast talking about, and arguing about, the Newbery! That made our weeks of reading and talking so much more worth while: that they were talking about this stuff without adult prompting, having read books that they want to talk about, made me feel so proud. We’ll start the 2009 Mock Newbery next week – I think they’re up for it.

So many other responses that there’s no need for more from me.
