Book Fair Mania

Posted by lpearle on 8 February 2009

Every year, MPOW holds a Book Fair. It’s a multi-day event and the room in which we hold it is overflowing with books and talk about books. For me, as a librarian, it’s gratifying to see the excitement the students and teachers have for what we’ve chosen to highlight each year. For me, as a book lover, it’s too tempting by half, but I’m staying strong.

Preparing for the Fair requires hours of thought from me and the LS Librarian: which books do we want to showcase for the students? What’s new that we love love love? And then there’s the marketing – posters, blurbs, “if you liked…” signs, etc. Many, many hours are spent on the lead up to the Fair.

The good thing is that I know that we are not alone in our efforts. Diane Chen has two wonderful posts about the Book Fair at HPOW, here and here. We don’t use the same vendor, but we get the same results.

It’s all about the books this week at MPOW!
